This week, LCEC will begin to perform maintenance on the 138kV transmission line serving customers on Marco Island. The work is part of the LCEC long-term plan to continue to provide storm resilient electric utility infrastructure and reduce restoration costs and outages to customers. Construction on the line, which is located in the water crossing adjacent to the Jolly Bridge, requires specialized contractors and equipment to perform the work. LCEC conducted a request for proposal and selected a specialized transmission construction contractor from Titusville, Florida to perform the utility work on the transmission line. Utilizing barges to transport materials and equipment, crews will replace two water-crossing transmission structures each with single 126 foot steel poles with concrete bases. The project also includes replacement of the current transmission wire and will be completed by June. LCEC staff project managers, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Coast Guard, Collier County and City of Marco Island staff and law enforcement officials will collaborate to coordinate construction efforts which will occur during the same time as work being performed on the Jolly Bridge. No interruption of service is anticipated during project construction. |
