Day Two – LCEC Hurricane Milton Restoration Update

North Fort Myers, FL, October 11, 2024 – LCEC crews are making significant progress in restoring power following the widespread impacts of Hurricane Milton. More than 67 thousand customers have been restored, less than 24 hours after damage assessments were complete. Efforts continue around the clock to ensure full restoration as quickly and safely as possible.

In a restoration event, LCEC works through four steps:

  • Assessment Phase: Nearly all initial damage assessments were completed yesterday, with ongoing evaluations happening as needed to address new issues or additional damage.
  • Critical repairs-: All transmission lines and substations on the mainland are operational. (Crews are currently working to restore power at the Sanibel and Pine Island substations, with full operational status of the substations expected by the end of today.)
  • Quickly and Safely: Most main circuits that supply power to neighborhoods and businesses are now functional. This progress enables crews to focus on residential areas.
  • Remaining Outages: Once large groups of members are restored, crews will address individual outages impacting smaller numbers of members.

Heavily Impacted Areas:

Several areas were heavily impacted by tornadoes and severe storm conditions. Among the most affected regions are:

  • Cape Coral: Burnt Store, Southwest Cape Coral, and Agualinda areas
  • North Fort Myers

Be Safe! Exercise caution when using generators, as improper usage can lead to dangerous situations. Always follow the manufacturer’s guidelines. Additionally, while cleaning up around your property, be mindful of downed power lines, debris, and unstable structures.

LCEC appreciates the continued patience and support of members. Crews assisting with power restoration are dedicated to working tirelessly until every customer is fully restored. These teams have traveled from across the nation, having already responded to other storm-related outages. Now, here in Southwest Florida, they are partnering with LCEC crews to do what they do best—restore power swiftly and safely for our community.
