North Fort Myers, FL, October 9, 2024 – As Southwest Florida braces for the impending arrival of Hurricane Milton, LCEC is taking proactive steps to ensure effective restoration efforts for members. Basecamps are staged and tomorrow will set up at the Lee Civic Center as soon as the weather calms. The camps can accommodate thousands of out-of-state crews arriving to support.
Crews from neighboring states are being deployed to assist LCEC in restoration efforts in the aftermath of Milton. The basecamps will serve as lodging for incoming workers, providing beds, bathrooms, and dining, as well as operational hubs, such as a mobile command unit and equipment staging. This preparation is critical in bolstering the local workforce to ensure timely restoration once it is safe to begin post-storm repairs.
LCEC Incident Commander Allan Ruth said, "We are committed to ensuring that the community has the resources and support necessary to recover from Milton, and that means bringing in additional crews. We are positioning ourselves to respond as safely and efficiently to serve our members."
